Went to Kuala Lumpur with Ah Beng last weekend. We met at bugis on fri night and took bus 170 to larkin bus interchange before changing to a coach. While on board 170, Ah Beng showed me a zennish picture of his digested materials on his handphone. Puke. When the coach reached the city of Kuala Lumpur, Ah Beng was still semi-conscious. To our surprise, the door of the coach closed and continued on its way. We thought KL was the place where the coach was terminating. But curiosity got the better of us and we decided to wait and see what was going to happen next.
It was only after the coach left the city limit did we smell something fishy. I went to ask the driver of the coach where it was heading and he told me Penang! Oh blimey! We immediately asked the driver to stop the coach and alighted in the middle of a highway. Thankfully there was another coach going in the direction of Kuala Lumpur city. I ran in front of the coach to stop the vehicle and both of us hitchhike the coach back.
We reached Kuala Lumpur "again". Ah Beng brought me to a hotel amidst the Golden Triangle and somewhere near Times Square. As the check in time was 530am and we were early, we sat on a sofa in the lobby and chat. One fascinating aspect about this hotel was that all the receptionists seem to recognise us even though we had never seen them before. Even more freakish, they were able to pass us our room key without any queries or asking our names!
KL is remarkably impressive. The al-fresco restaurants and bars are tastefully decorated. I feel like going inside one of them. The shopping centres are huge compared to those in Singapore. There is even an air-conditioned newspaper reading corner in the middle of the street and its free. Total coolness. We went to Jalan Petaling in the late noon at Chinatown. This place looks just like Khao San Road in Bangkok to me. I bought myself a pair of shoes and Ah Beng bought sunglasses, cuff links and T-shirts. Ah Beng also brought me to a pet shop that sells snakes and tarantulas. Nice name card the shop has.
Later in the evening, Ah Beng introduced me to one of his friend, Michelle. Michelle displayed great hospitality and drove us around the city in her car. Talking about cars. Some of the roads in KL are perpetually jammed. Sweat. We went to KTV at night. I was initially sleepy but the beers perked me up and i was good to go again. Left the place at 4am and we went back to our hotel to rest.
On the last day, we met Michelle for lunch and she brought us to this place where they sell yummy fish heads before we head to the bus interchange to take the coach back to Singapore. We experienced a traffic jam inside the car park.
Anyway, this trip has changed my perception of KL tremendously. I appreciate the capital more now compared to the last time i went there. Thank you Ah Beng for being my travel companion. Haha. If only Closeted Lian and Sarong Party Girl were there as well....
